Greytiding and You

What Is Greytiding?

Greytiding (or tiding for short) is acting in a manner that is disruptive to the round in a smaller scale. It usually involves crimes such as breaking and entering and theft. The idea is to do whatever you'd like, blowing off all authority. It is very easy to greytide in a manner which causes a negative disruption to other player's rounds, This should be avoided or minimized as much as possible. The main objective of greytiding is to have fun in a round in a way which may or may not put you at odds with station security and command. Ruining other people's rounds or heavily inconveniencing them just for the fun of it is being a shitter, not upholding the honorable tradition of our honored ancestors in grey.

History of Greytiding

Greytiding was originally named after what would happen when a large number of new players would get introduced into the SS13 community. Large numbers of grey clad assistants would ravage stations like locusts upon Egypt; stealing everything not nailed down and breaking anything their toolboxes could smash through before they got bored. Facing the large learning curve many of these new players would leave the game, some would stay and go on to become full members of the station's community. A blessed few however would feel the call of the toolbox and take up arms in the eternal jihad of silly. If you are reading this article it means you are one of those chosen few.

The 3 commandments of the Tider

1) Thou shall not obey.

Tiding is fundamentally an anarchistic behavior and as such any obedience to a higher power (IE Security or Command) is shameful. This does not mean that you can't do something someone tells you to, only that you should do it only if you desire to. Be open to compromise though, especially where it would fatten your wallet.

2) Thou shall test the crew.

Tiding does have a benefit, which is greater on this station because nothing ever happens nothing ever happens. It lets players in security or command roles gain experience with law-breakers on a server without antags; further empowering them if and when they decide to play on a non-degenerate server server with antags. While SPLURT's primary attractions are is it's ERP and Community, the chance to learn jobs and mechanics in a low stakes environment is rare. Crimes of opportunity are an integral part of the tiding process, so keep an eye out- seccie wandering with his baton out? Free loot! HoP left the window open and the console logged in? Free AA!

3) Thou shall be robust.

"Robust" is a word that is thrown around a lot, usually it's used as a replacement for "Good at Space Game", but it's more than that. Being robust is an attitude and competency! While tiding you should keep a level head; have fun, but measure your actions. Comedy is about timing, so you need to know when it's time to stop.... or when continuing will be interesting for all parties. Tiding is more than just running around and hitting people with a toolbox; it is a code of chivalry with which to live! So, understand the game mechanics well, but also be on the lookout for ways to help others- use your assistant's AA (toolbelt + insuls) to help those in need and show new players how to play; trust me, it'll be more fun than getting arrested by sec for the thousandth time.

4) Thou shall Have fun

Break the rules, cause chaos, give security and the lawyer something to do (God knows they need it). But always make sure that you are contributing to the amount of fun in a round, be it your own or another's.
